We want to give a huge Thank you to all the following named composers and platforms who provide their music under Creative Commons. Again we focused on african und adventure sounding music which is under creative commons. We happy to present again our Intro song "Mama Africa" by Petite Viking. We also have music of @FSM_Team (from @thenakarada, Scott Buckley @musoscientific and Alwin Brauns), @Jamendo (Zolile Matikinga aka Zoro, Welan Edvee @djwelanedvee7), The Free Music Archive (@freemusicarchiv), The Internet Archive (@internetarchive), and the YouTube Music Library 3rd party pictures are coming from the Wikipedia (@Wikipedia) and Flickr (@Flickr). This episode will first premir exclusively on our website. After the weekend the episode will also become available on Apple Podcasts, Vero - True Social and YouTube. This episode's primary language is English, subtitles are available in English, German, French, Espaniol, Italian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Farsi. All languages will be available at the premier except of Farsi. The Farsi subtitles will follow a few days later. A first test has shown that the new pages are cleaner and faster in response. You are welcome to give us your feedback to these new design. We decided to do that because publishing this episode under the old design would have been extra work and this is also a perfect test of the new web pages and if they work as we expect them to work. Since a half year we are working on a re-design of our website and will publish it this summer. You can get a first look on the new design on tonights publish episode page as this page will appear in the new look. We typically opt for the CC-BY 4.0 International or public domain license for our content. However, due to the presence of 3rd party content, incompatible with these licenses, we've chosen to release this episode under the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license. This allows others to use the content with proper credit, under the same CC-BY-SA license or a compatible one. In the past 2 years, we've embraced Creative Commons licensing for our content. We've created a library of CC-BY 4 licensed productions on our website. Excitingly, our upcoming documentary will also be released under a CC-BY license. This song is also a bridge to how we will license our documentary episodes in the future. To honore Maggie's work we have decided to face out with silence and mix it with a very nice calm and quiet song in the end credits. We pay tribute to modern times with a summary at the beginning of each episode (although this was also traditionally the case in 60-70s series). In the early 2000s a groundbreaking tv series introduced the silent fade out to memory a character. We as creators are huge serial junkies. In this spirit we introduced some tradtional serial elements in our documentaries, such as a proper Intro and end credits. The sad und expected passing of our Showrunner Maggie in October 2022, had an impact to the design and story we want to tell in this episode. Maggie's major part in this production is honored in the final minute of the episode before the end credits fade in. We continued the post production with the new video material and the third party CC materials in March 2023 with a final version of a raw-cut in End of April 2023. Filming in 2019 took place with an iPhone 6s camera and filming in 2023 with an iPhone XS and iPhone14 Pro camera. Especially the film material of the iPhone 6s went through a complex post production process as we increased the quality to get close to a level we expect. Especially in the center of Port Elizabeth you are very well connected with Uber or your own car or a rental car. Our experience with car rental at the Port Elizabeth airport in 2019 was very good. For those of our audiance who may think to visit Port Elizabeth in the future, we did use Mango/Global Aviation in 2019 (the airline stopped it's services) and the Greyhound Bus and FlySafair in 2023. We can recomment to use the airplane as well as the long distance bus. The reshots were filmed at Summerstrand, Bluewater Bay in Port Elizabeth and in the area between Middelburg, Cookhouse, Uitenhage and Port Elizabeth. But still due to security issues we decided not to film own material at some locations. Here the filling material under CC licenses comes in place again. New material was available and we used this to fill the gaps. We planned the reshots for January 2023 and returned to Port Elizabeth. This time we used the long-distance bus and did also some filming of the area of Eastern Cape. We filmed a lot of own material in PE again. The script & VoiceOver had been finished until February 2022 but we recognized that at lot of material is missing. We checked 3rd-party sources under CC license for filling materials. At this point we found that not enough filling material was available & we had to plan reshots. Maggie and Sven - our showrunners for Orbit Mzansi - have been responsible for the on location shootings. Sven and Lebona - Maggie's sister - where responsible for the script of the episode. The Voice Over is spoken again by Jennifer Sarah Boone. But we haven't been inactive and continued the work on this episode. We wrote the script, identified new places to add to this episode and started the post productions process but ordering the voice over for this episode. We also visited the historic downtown of Port Elizabeth. Here we shot a lot of photos which you will see in this episode. Nevertheless our time in PE was to short & after the covid-19 pandemic made it difficult to travel it took till Jan. 2023 to return to PE for some reshoots. Sardinia Bay was also the first place where we tested under water filming. The extended material we published already in 2019 as a Special Event episode (Special Events - S01E02). Some of these under water material will also be part of this episode - in a much better quality. Starting from Summerstrand we visited some fascinating places until we arrived at one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. The Sardinia Bay. An almost empty beach at this time and behind a huge dune. To climb the dune was already an advanture. During our yearly production window in South Africa our Orbit Mzansi showrunner Maggie guided us through Port Elizabeth. A city she well knows and with places we must share and speak about. Until the premiere of Orbit Mzansi Travel PE and Sardinia Bay our production team will post many information about the production which took place from Feb 2019 till January 2023.
