Starliner test flights will continue with cargo flights and if successful then with crews again. Same process as done with the Space X dragon capsular in the past.

A lot the objectives to Starliner has been fulfilled. More details of the problems they will also get when the Starliner is back.
It's the easiest and obvious way to add two empty seats on Crew-9 (this is possible with Space X) to bring Butch and Suni back

Space X and Boeing have to work with the money they get from NASA and the tax payers and they have been aware of this as they signed the contracts and started developing the space crafts for crewed human space flight.

Administrator Nelson explains that the commercial space program of NASA is based on contracts with fix prices that NASA will pay to Space X and Boeing. This reduces the costs massively for NASA and the tax payer. Both companies know that these prices are fix.

NASA has created an atmosphere where everyone can step in front and tell their mind at such critical decision making like in human space flight.

NASA Administrator Nelson is 100% sure that Boeing Starliner will fly again with a crew.

He was already part of NASA as the Space Shuttles Challenger and Discovery disasters happened. This influenced his decision to set Safety as the first priority today.

To make the decision was not easy for NASA. It's the first time since a long time that NASA has to change a Mission plan so radically as now happened.

Once is clear that the problems of Boeing with Starliner are just one case in a long line of security and quality problems that Boeing has on its aerospace products in the last decade.

NASA says it's a decision made of the technical expertise that NASA has,witch is more than Boeing has. Still NASA is committed to continue work with Boeing. Nevertheless NASA said that there is a disagreement of risk management between NASA & Boeing technicians.

Butch and Suni support the decision of NASA.

To return to Earth with Crew-9 Butch and Suni need the astronauts suits of Space X. Two of them will be transported with Crew-9 to ISS.
NASA underlines that this is a test flight of Starliner and problems had been expected.

The normal Crew exchange on September 24th will happen as planed. After that the docking ports will be prepared to bring Starliner back to Earth.

Butch and Suni will now stay for 8 months on the ISS. A normal mission time to ISS is 6 months and can be extended to 12 months. Butch and Suni are now in the middle of this time frame.

Currently they can not predict what the Thrusters will do when undocking from the ISS. A flight test simulation for that doesn't not convinced NASA enough to decide to bring Butch and Suni home with the Starliner.

Boeing said that they would be ready to continue the flight tests crewed and un-crewed.
NASA finally decided to continue the flights tests un-crewed.

Next week Wednesday they expect to continue the flight tests with undocking Starliner from the ISS.

NASA says: Safety is the first priority.

A save return with the Starliner is currently not guaranteed.
However there is a major steps forward in the analysis of the problems with the thrusters.

NASA just decided that Boeing Star Liner crew will return with Crew 9 of Space X in February 2025.
Starliner ship will return unmanned.
