LC-EP02: Artemis 1 Mission – First launch attempt

  • 29.08.2022 14:40

Artemis 1 launch has be scrubbed. Next launch window is this Friday, Sept. 2nd 2022

  • 29.08.2022 14:06

Engine 3 of the SLS rocket is still making problems. The launch window opens in around 25 minutes.

  • 29.08.2022 13:55

Artemis 1 launches from 39b Launch site. Currently the plans are discussed of how to solve the other issues that appeared today. The launch window for Artemis 1 is today from 14:30 till 16:30 CEST. Further launch windows are on Sept. 2nd and 5th.

  • 29.08.2022 13:38

air has been sucked in, chilled and appears as ice on the tanks. This is the reason for what appears to be a leak in the tanks but it isn't a leak. One issue solved.

  • 29.08.2022 13:25

Engine 3 can't be properly cooled. A leak the tank structure was resolved. The countdown was hold at T -40 minutes.

  • 29.08.2022 13:08

further trouble shooting for engine 3 must be done. All other launch processes continue.

  • 29.08.2022 12:54

Engine 3 is not getting a proper engine bleed. The pressure that is needed for a successful engine bleed is not there at the moment. technicians working on different trouble shooting plans.

  • 29.08.2022 12:36

liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen are filled into the tanks of the rocket. Little problems with the filling of the liquid hydrogen. Maybe we will get some delays in the take off. The start happens from the NASA space center in Cap Canaveral.

When the Orion capsular returns from the moon it will enter the earth atmosphere with 8 to 11 or even more kilometers per hour speed. This is why the capsular is special protected for the frictional heat that appears when entering earth atmosphere.

  • 29.08.2022 10:48

the rocket used to start the Orion capsular is stronger than the #SaturnV which brought the Apollo astronauts to the moon.

  • 29.08.2022 10:24

A functioning protective vest from cosmic radiation also means that future space ships don't need much stronger radiation protection. This will reduce construction and flight costs.

  • 29.08.2022 10:23

One dummy will wear a new developed vest which should protect the human body from cosmic rays. It's to find out if this new development works. If it works, future astronauts will be able to wear their own cosmic radiation vests.

  • 29.08.2022 10:22

Onboard of the Orion capsular are two dummies with many different sensors to investigate the environment future astronauts will be in. For example, the impact of cosmic rays on the human body is measured.

  • 29.08.2022 10:21

The European service module (#ESM) is the heart of this mission. It is responsible to deliver directions, power and navigation to the Orion capsular.

  • 29.08.2022 10:20

Artemis 1 is an unmanned mission to the moon. Mission time will be 30 days. During this time the Orion capsular will fly 2 times around the moon during the moons 30 days orbit around #Earth. Then the Orion capsular will land on earth.

You can watch the start of Artemis 1 on NASA TV and also at 12:30 MEST via the ESA webtv https://esa.int/ESA_Multimedia/ESA_Web_TV

  • 29.08.2022 10:04

The start of Artimes 1 is scheduled for 14:33 CEST. Currently fuel is loaed to the rocket that will bring the Orion capsular and the #ESM (European service module) on its way to the moon.
